“Pretty Monsters” and Dracula

Staten Island OutLOUD joins the Noble Collection for this spooky & seasonal spoken word performance with dance by members of Creation Dance Collective.
We’ll read from Kelly Link’s short story “Pretty Monsters” – and we’ll contrast that segment with a reading from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
This event is part of Staten Island OutLOUD’s autumn series for The Big Read – National Endowment for the Arts.
Readers include John Bostrom, Vincent Vok, Beth Gorrie and others TBA.
Dancers: Melisande Echanique, Alyssa Rapp, Rosita Roldan and Shawna Salmon.
The National Endowment for the Arts presents The Big Read in partnership with the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and in cooperation with Arts Midwest.

Join us for an informal reading from Kelly Link’s short story “The Wrong Grave” & conversation in the charming 19th century parlor of Mont Sec House, located on the grounds of historic Fort Wadsworth. Enter via the guard station at the end of Bay Street at School Road. Free parking in the Visitors Center.
Mont Sec House is located on Mont Sec Avenue, just to the left of the guard station, off New York Avenue.

“Pretty Monsters” & Sonic Gates: Candlelight Stroll, Dance, Readings and Bells

Friday, Oct 19th, 7pm. 7 Navy Pier Court @Urby (Front Street & Navy Pier), Staten Island NY 10304. (One block from Bay Street)

Meet us at the Staten Island Arts gallery, where our candlelight stroll begins. We’ll walk from Urby to Tappen Park, then to MakerPark, then to the Urby waterfront as we explore Sonic Gates, the large kinetic sculptures installed in each of those locations.

Each audience member will be given bells and glow sticks as we stroll along this 4-block circuit around Stapleton.

Special musical guests: Bobbaloo Basey and Tracey Wright on pennywhistle.

Featured dancers: Melisande Echinique, Alyssa Rapp, Rosita Roldan, and Shawna Salmon – creation dance collective.

Costumed dancers will lead us along the way, and at each location we’ll pause for a reading from Kelly Link’s fantastical short stories, Pretty Monsters. Dancers will perform at each location, then they’ll lead us to the next site. Our stroll will return to the Staten Island Arts gallery, where we’ll have drinks, conversation and fellowship. Free, fun and family-friendly!
